Natural History Seminar Series

The public is invited to a free presentation "DEM BONES - Making the most of stranded marine mammals" at UAS Sitka Campus, Room 106, on Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30pm. Speaker, Shannon Atkinson, currently lives in Juneau, where she works as a Professor for the Juneau Center of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, University of Alaska Fairbanks. As part of her passion for promoting science and math, she developed the DEM BONES class and has successfully completed 2 years focusing on high school. Shannon completed the community based class in Sitka rearticulating Kruzof the killer whale that was found stranded on Kruzof Island in 2011. She has been the featured scientist in five TV programs promoting science and marine careers.
