What is my UAS username?
Your username something like tfxxx -- it is two letters (tf for Sitka faculty, ts for Sitka students, for example) plus three initials and sometimes additional numbers. If you can't remember it:
-- Go to : https://uascentral.uas.alaska.edu/elmo/ On campus students can temporarily log onto the UAS network (in order to retrieve their username from ) following instructions that are posted in the computer classroom and lab.

My UAS account is locked or I have forgotten the password. What do I do?
Accounts are locked after the 3rd attempt to login has failed. The UAS helpdesk (877-465-6400) can unlock accounts and reset passwords if needed. Accounts also unlock automatically after 20 minutes.
I can’t remember my UA employee number or UA Online PIN number. How can I access UA Online?
-- You can use to find your UAS employee number (which has replaced social security numbers for most purposes).
-- The UAS helpdesk (877-465-6400) can also help you with your employee number and reset UA Online PINs. They’ll need your name, ssn, and birth date.

I need a class list. What do I do?
Faculty can access their class lists from UA Online ( www.uaonline.alaska.edu). They need to "Login to Secured Area" and follow the “Faculty Services” link. They’ll need to select the current term and course and then select “Summary Class List” or other option if appropriate.
UASOnline now automatically includes a class list, however new students are not added until their user accounts are created. Accounts are created after students have registered AND made financial arrangments.
I have students that are doing poorly in my class. Who can I contact to assist them?
Contact Marilyn Durocher (747-7705). She can help with "Early Intervention" for students that are having problems.
What are the deadlines for grades? How do I turn in grades?
Contact Randy Nutting or the front desk (800-478-6653 or 747-6653). Grades may also be submitted online at UAOnline ( www.uaonline.alaska.edu ) during the final grading period.
How are proctored exams managed for distance classes?
Students will make arrangements for a local proctor and then fill out and return the Sitka Campus Proctor Form. . Depending on where they live they may be able to take their tests at a local campus or learning center. In smaller towns or villages they may arrange a proctor at a local high school, library etc. The faculty will send their test to the Sitka Campus Distance Education office ( they may send it by email as a Word attachment or PDF file) along with information about what days the test should be available, what resources are allowed (notes, calculators, books, etc) and any time limit for the exam. The Distance Ed office will distribute the test to the proctors. Results are returned to the Distance Ed office by FAX and can be sent to you by FAX or scanned and emailed.
How do I give my students an online "closed book" test?
You can construct an online test on UAS Online or other course management system and then protect the test with a password. Send the password to the Distance Education office along with information about where the test is located and the usual information about resources, time limits etc. The password will be sent to the proctor only. The student will go to their testing center, login to their course manangement system, and then the proctor will enter the test password (without revealing the password to the student).
I have a web-based course but would like to have occasional audioconferences - is that possible ?
Contact the Distance Education office - they can arrange for your course to have an audioconference number.

I need to use a ______________. What do I do?
All campus classrooms are now equiped with a television and DVD/VCR players as well as overhead projectors. You can borrow equipment such as laptops, digital projectors, stereo "boomboxes", digital cameras, etc. from the Instructional Design Center. Go to Room 204 or call 747-9424. We will need to know the time and location you will need the equipment and whether you need any help setting it up.
My class needs access to computers during a scheduled class period. What do I do?
Faculty have a couple of options. They can check with Randy Nutting (747-7770) to see if Room 205B is available. Room 205B is a computer classroom with 24 students stations and a faculty station and projector. If it is not available or not preferred, faculty can check out the mobile classroom. It includes 15 laptops and a printer. The mobile classroom can be setup in your regular classroom.
My students need access to computers (individually, outside of class time) on the Sitka campus. Where do they go?
Room 112 is now the open computer lab and has 8 computer stations. There are an additional eight computer stations in the Learning Center.
The audioconference equipment in my classroom is not working. What do I do?
The instructional services department/front counter can check it out. If a replacement is needed on a short term basis, they can use the IDCs audioconference equipment. The instructional services department are responsible for replacing classroom equipment on a long term basis.

Can I get software to use on my home computer?
UAS has a licensing agreement to let faculty and staff install Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint ... ) on home computers. Students faculty and staff are also eligible for anit-virus software. Contact Campus Technical Support (Rita Fuller - 747-7744 ). You can install the free Breeze plug-in to use with Powerpoint. The IDC can also help you get started with a variety of free software programs (Netscape Composer, Windows Movie Maker, Audacity etc) and can advise you about other software that is available at academic discounts.
