Disable PopUp Blockers

For some websites to work, you need to disable "PopUp Blockers". Instructions vary for different types of Popup Blockers, but here are some examples:

Google Toolbar

To always allow popups on a particular site - click the popup button Pop-up Blockers icon while at that site. This may not always work because some course tools are "served" from different sites.

You can also manually turn the popup blocker on and off. Click on the Google Toolbar to choose Options:

Choose Options from Google Menu

From the Options Panel -- Uncheck Popup Blocker:

Google Options

MSN Toolbar Turn the Pop-up Guard on and off by clicking its button on the MSN Toolbar MSN toolbar
  • When the button label reads Pop-ups Blocked, the Pop-up Guard is turned on and most pop-up windows are blocked. The number of pop-up windows that have been blocked is shown in parentheses on the button.
  • When the button label reads Pop-ups Allowed, the Pop-up Guard is turned off, allowing all pop-up windows to appear.

Internet Explorer in Windows XP, SP2 The newest version of Internet Explorer has a Popup Blocker. To disable it:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on Tools
  • Hold your mouse cursor over "Pop-up Blocker".
  • When the menu appears click on "Turn Off Pop-up Blocker" (if the option says "Turn on Pop-up Blocker", then your Popup Blocker is already off).
Other Popup Blockers: Many will have a button you can click on or off. It may be located in the "toolbar" (top) of your browser or in the "system tray" (that's the sunken area on the lower right of your Windows screen that usually contains the time and other icons).

If you don't have a button then you should have a menu -- it is often located in your browser toolbar. Menus can be indicated by a downward arrow next to an icon or name - as shown in the examples above. If you have a specialized toolbar (similar to the Google toolbar) - there may be an "Options" menu next to the toolbar name or icon.
