Students must have ACCESS to a PC computer with the following system requirements.
- Windows 98, NT, ME, 2000, or XP. (Macintosh is not supported.)
- Internet Connection: Reliable dialup connection (56K modem) for tutorials, homework and tests. A Cable/DSL/T1 or other high speed connection is needed to access the multimedia library.
- Web Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is required. Netscape and Firefox are not supported. If you use America Online, do not use the AOL browser. Sign on to the Internet and then use Internet Explorer.
- Memory: 256 MB RAM
- Monitor resolution: 1024 x 768 or higher
- Plug-ins: You will be given the opportunity to install plug-ins when you start the online course. Plug-ins include Adobe Acrobat, Quicktime, RealPlayer. All plug-ins are available at the course site. All plug-ins are free.
You will probably need 4-6 hours per week online (plus additional hours offline) to complete course requirements. If you do not have a personal computer, you should check with your local University of Alaska campus or outreach coordinator, local library, community school, or tribal organization for computer access. |
