Personal Education Planning
UAS Sitka is pleased to welcome three new student services professionals available to work with our distance and local students through the Sitka Campus Student Success Center.
Personal Education Planners can help you navigate the process of getting started in college all the way through degree completion and transition to the workforce by connecting you with the appropriate student services and resources relevant to your situation.
Please call us if we can help.
Behavioral Health and Advocacy
Our Behavioral Health and Advocacy Educational Planner provides support for online and on-campus UAS Sitka students in recognizing and responding to behavioral health challenges affecting personal success.
Deb can address topics such as stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, domestic/interpersonal violence, suicide, and other issues including physical, emotional, and sexual health concerns.
She may also be able to assist you with challenges such as housing insecurity, transportation difficulties, and more through making referrals to appropriate resources.
Please contact Deb if you have any questions about any of these services.
Rural and Native Student Services
Our Rural and Native Student Support Educational Planner will serve as a navigator for rural and Alaska Native students with an emphasis on relationship building and promotion of degree completion.
Crystal can provide support with issues stemming from the unique experiences of Alaska Native/indigenous and rural students within the college environment, such as intercultural communication/conflict issues, feelings of inclusivity or cultural relevance, and identification of resources specific to Native and rural students attending college.
We look forward to hearing from our current and former rural and Alaska Native students. Crystal is currently assembling an email list for those interested in rural and Native student concerns, so please contact her if you would like to be added to that list.
Our Financial Literacy Education Planner provides a variety of services to local and distance UAS Sitka students to help them with the financial concerns of attending college.
Joy assists students with the first steps of applying for student aid: from setting up an FSA ID and completing the FAFSA to interpreting and finalizing financial aid eligibility requirements. She can help students identify scholarship opportunities, set personal budgets, and understand student debt and the different types of student loans. She also supports UAS Sitka students with other financial literacy concerns, including scholarship application counseling, career financial planning, responsible use of credit, and creating a plan to pay for school.
If you have difficulty understanding your financial aid requirements or want to learn strategies to manage money during school, you can contact Joy directly by phone or email to ask questions or request an appointment.
