UAA-UAS partnership program that provides students with a closely related mix of theory and clinical practice; students gain experience in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and community agencies. Successful graduates are able to sit for the NCLEX (RN nurse licensure exam). Cohorts are scheduled in Juneau and Ketchikan on even numbered years, and in Sitka on odd numbered years.
A 9-credit course designed to train entry level workers in basic skills needed to assist nurses and to be efficient health care team members. Students qualify to sit for the Alaska State Certification Exam for Nursing Assistants. Minimum of 75 lecture hours and 80 lab/clinical hours included. Offered on all UAS campuses.
A 4-credit course designed to train entry-level healthcare workers in basic skills needed for home healthcare. Students receive an Alaskan State Certificate of Completion for Personal Care Attendant (PCA) training. Minimum of 75 hours of classroom, lab, and/or practicum included. The course is offered on site in Juneau and by distance delivery from Sitka.
Trains Personal Care Assistants to become CNAs. Builds on basic skills and experience. Classroom, lab and clinical experience provide needed hours for the Alaska Certified Nurse Aides certification exam. Minimum 75 hours of classroom, lab and clinical practice. Pre-requisites: Completion of UAS Personal Care Attendant Training; Current TB test; Instructor permission. Offered on site in Juneau and by distance delivery from Sitka.
The Certificate in Pre-Radiologic Technology Qualifications (CPRTQ) prepares students to enter professional medical imaging programs, the graduates of which sit for a national radiologic technology exam. The certificate includes a base in the university’s GER options in communication, computation and human relations. The CPRTQ includes all pre-requisites for entry into and all program co-requisites for completion of most A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology programs.
A five-course distance program from UAA that provides a conceptual framework for pharmacy technician work and prepares individuals to take the national certification exam. Appropriate for either beginning students or for those already employed as pharmacy technicians. Program is available via Distance Ed. for individuals located anywhere in the state.
The mission of the Medical Laboratory Technology department is to graduate competent and ethical professionals with the knowledge and the skills necessary to work as either entry-level phlebotomists, clinical assistants, medical laboratory technicians or medical technologists.

An area of Health Information Management (HIM) specifically focused on coding/classifications systems at both the inpatient and outpatient level. The certificate will allow students to obtain entry-level skills in healthcare coding and the opportunity to continue to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. Available by distance delivery.
Prepares students for employment in data access and disclosure. Students who complete this program are prepared to work in a variety of employment settings, particularly in healthcare related facilities. This certificate contains coursework that will apply toward the Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Management. Available by distance delivery.
Teaches students to successfully implement health promotion and health education activities in their community. Ideal for village health and human service workers, such as Community Health Aides, Community Health Representatives, and Community Health Advocates. Distance-delivered, offered state-wide in cooperation with the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. Able to be integrated into the AAS in Health Sciences degree.
