ENVT S193 Drinking Water Microbiology Lab Analysts Workshop
2 credits; 4-Day Lab in Anchorage

This course covers basic microbiology laboratory skills and media preparation and focuses on the analytical procedures for potable water analysis and surface/source water analysis. State and federal regulations regarding water laboratory certification requirements will also be covered. The intended audience will be UAS-Sitka Environmental Technology students, water system operators, and drinking water laboratory technicians and supervisors. Successful completion of the workshop will qualify technicians to perform drinking water microbiology analyses in a certified laboratory. ENVT students who have taken ENVT 130 are encouraged to register for this course.
Prerequisites: ENVT S130 or instructor's permission.

ENVT S210 Water Treatment
3 credits; Web Based

This course is a continuation of ENVT S110 and covers the operational process of water treatment plants in detail and operational safety and equipment maintenance. Processes include pretreatment, chemical coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and rapid sand filtration, slow sand and pressure filtration, alternative disinfection methods, corrosion control and taste and odor control. Required for Environmental Technology AAS degree.
Prerequisites: ENVT S102 and ENVT S110 (or Level 1 water treatment certification).

ENVT S211 Wastewater Treatment
3 credits; Web Based

This course is a continuation of ENVT S111 and covers the operational process of wastewater treatment plants in greater detail including, operational safety and equipment maintenance. Processes discussed include activated sludge, anaerobic and aerobic digestion, effluent disposal, solids balance, and record keeping. Required for Environmental Technology AAS degree.
Prerequisite: ENVT S102 and ENVT S111 (or Level 1 wastewater treatment certification).

ENVT S240 Practicum
3 credits; Web Based

This course is designed to expose students to actual water and/or wastewater operations. Students with assistance from the supervising instructor and worksite supervisor will develop individualized objectives to be met by working as an entry level operator for 80 hours. Required for Environmental Technology AAS degree.
Prerequisite: ENVT S101, S106, S110, S111, and S132 and/or instructor's permission
