Health Care Programs

UAS Sitka’s Health Care programs offer a wide variety of entry-level training courses as well as preparatory programs for careers in Health Science and Health Information Management (HIM).

Health Information Management

Health care costs and the necessity to enhance the management of health care delivery systems have created an explosion in the demand for health care information specialists – people with the knowledge and skills necessary to process, analyze, and distribute health care information in diverse practice environments.

A career as a health information professional offers the chance to blend an interest in medicine with the multifaceted information management challenges of tomorrow. UAS Sitka provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in health information technology, coding, or privacy and security. Courses taken for earning an occupational endorsement or certificate are applicable to the A.A.S. degree.

The Health Information Management (HIM) Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) at UAS is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

Health Sciences

UAS Health Sciences offers students pathways to direct employment and to advanced career degrees. Some of the more popular courses in the Health Sciences program enable students to sit for state certifications, including Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training.

Students wishing to enter careers such as nursing may earn a pre-qualifying certificate, which includes the general courses required for successful application to either in-state or nationwide Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) programs.

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Health Sciences prepares students to enter direct care careers, or to apply (transfer) to programs in nursing and other allied health professions.
