Due in large part to rapid changes in technology that are redefining the way we capture and manage healthcare data, the Alaskan healthcare industry needs to prepare its employees for the technology shift towards electronic health records.
UAS Sitka Campus offers an occupational endorsement in health information technology designed to train healthcare staff and professionals on the most current and emerging technologies including electronic health records (EHRs).
Students will learn the most recent privacy and security requirements for EHRs and the fundamentals of healthcare information technology by focusing on the resources, devices, and methods used to acquire, store, retrieve and utilize electronic healthcare information.
This occupational endorsement is appropriate for students preparing for employment as an entry level Healthcare Information Specialists or as supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in related health record occupations.
This occupational endorsement contains coursework that applies toward the Health Care Privacy and Security Certificate and the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Health Information Management.
This program requires 15 credit hours of course work:
High school diploma or GED is required for admission.
