Getting Started in Your Class
The first place to go for information about your class is the course site on UAS Online. How much this site will be used depends on what type of course you have signed up for (local, web-based, audio conference, ... ) and on your instructors preferences. For distance courses in particular, however, UAS Online is generally the place you should go for initial course information.
Once you have registered (and it is within two weeks of start of the course) you should also access your UAS email account, update your UAS Online profile, and continue to check the UAS online course site for any updated course information.
-
Information about your course
Your instructor may post information on UAS Online prior to the start of the course.
- Go to www.uas.alaska.edu/online
- CHOOSE THE SEMESTER - the drop-down list on the left generally shows the current semester. If you are looking ahead to next semester's course, you will need to choose that semester.
- Where it says "Browse any UAS course" - enter the course number ( MATH105-UT1 for example)
- Click "by Number" to search by course number
- Click on the link to the UAS Online website for your course.
After registering for your class, you should do the following:
-
Order your books(s)
If you are taking a course from the Sitka campus ( the section number is T01, T02, ... UT1, UT2, ... TD1, TD2 etc.):
- You will order your book from the MBS bookstore: go to http://direct.mbsbooks.com/ualaska.htm or call MBS at 1-800-325-3252. Please plan to order your books at least ten days prior to your first class to ensure timely delivery. If you need assistance with ordering your book, then call the Sitka campus at 1-800-478-6653 or 907-747-6653.
- Note that some courses require special textbook "packages" including supplementary material such as workbooks, CDs or website access codes, so check the syllabus for your course before ordering books elsewhere. See the instructions on this page for how to access the UAS Online website for your course. If you do not see information on the website or syllabus about the required book(s), then call Student Services at 1-800-478-6653 or 907-747-6653.
- If you are taking a distance course from another campus, you should contact that campus to find out how to order your book(s).
-
Obtain your UAS username and password
Note: If you are not currently registered for courses, your UAS account becomes active two weeks prior to the start of your course. If you register during this period it may take a couple of days for your account to become active.
- To find your UAS username or set your password - go to www.uas.alaska.edu/elmo/
- If your account is unavailable, call the Juneau Helpdesk at 1-877-465-6400
-
Login to UASOnline
You should visit the UAS Online site for your course.
-
Update your UAS online profile
You should update your UAS Online profile to include your current email address (see below for instructions on accessing your UAS email). Note: Changing the default email in the profile for UAS online will also set a forwarding address for your UAS email - any email sent to your UAS email account will also go to this address. For instructions for editing your UASOnline profile visit the IDC Website.
-
Access your UAS email account
UAS email can be accessed at mail.uas.alaska.edu (note there is no "www" in this address). Even if you prefer to use your personal email account, you should at least visit this site to set a forwarding address for your UAS email. The username and password for UAS email is the same as for UAS Online. For instructions visit the IDC Website.
Important: Be sure and complete Step 4 (Update your UAS Online profile) if you want to have your UAS email forwarded to a different address.
