Which Classes Should I Register For?

First review the Program Requirements for the MPA degree.

If possible, your first course should be Introduction to Public Administration, PADM 601. This course provides a background of the field and orients you to the literature and the program technology. Other classes will assume have this general background. If you did not take Introduction to Government in your undergraduate degree you should complete this prerequisite prior to, or concurrently with, PADM 601. An Introduction to Government class must be completed before you can be admitted to the MPA progam.

There is no mandatory order of classes, however, the prerequisite of undergraduate statistics must be taken before PADM 604 Research Methods in Administration, and PADM 604 is a prerequisite for PADM 688 Program Evaluation. So it is advisable to take Research Methods early in your program of study.

The prerequisite of micro and macro economics must be taken before PADM 625 Economics of Public Policy and before PADM 632 Public Financial Management.

Finally, the Capstone class must be taken after you have completed all your core classes.

Students should develop a program plan of coursework using the advancement to candidacy form and the schedule of classes

Students should regularly consult with Program Director, Kathy DiLorenzo about their program planning.  Contact her by email or phone 796-6418 in Juneau or toll free 1-800-478-9069

Students should register as early as possible because there is a 25 student limit for classes.
