Kathy DiLorenzo offers this description of her course PADM 671 The Public Manager and the Policy Process offered this summer:
This course explores the process by which the interests of individuals are converted into public policy. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the public administrator as a democratic facilitator. The environment of public administration and public policy is a complex realm of competing values, and it is the responsibility of managers to understand this environment and provide the information and avenues necessary to create an inclusive and open process for addressing the public interest. With an emphasis on dialogue and other tools of communication we will explore how public policy is analyzed and held accountable within the current cultural, social, economic and political environments.
2. STATISTICS PREREQUISITE
Anyone who needs the Statistics prerequisite should be aware of the web based classes offered by Joe Liddle out of UAS-Sitka. He will teach STATS 273 this summer (and next Spring). He will also teach STATS 107 this fall. Both classes satisfy the MPA statistics prerequisite.

4. Travels
I had the opportunity to visit students in Anchorage, Kenai and Seward this month. It was great to visit and get acquainted. Next month Kathy DiLorenzo will be in Fairbanks May 22-26. I plan on making a longer site visit trip in June where I will visit Whitehorse, Delta, Fairbanks, Palmer, Anchorage, Kodiak and Dillingham. I trust I will be able to meet with a number of you.
