Apprenticeship Fair =Successful Partnership

Career Education partners with Juneau Construction Academy and Alaska Works Partnership

On February 22, 2008, the University of Alaska Southeast, Career Education, partnered with the Juneau Construction Academy and Alaska Works Partnership to host the second annual Apprenticeship Fair. Building on the success of this event held in February 2007, various unions again set up at the UAS Technical Education Center to provide hands on demonstrations and education and recruiting information to students from both Juneau middle schools and the high school. Job skills were presented by the following organizations:

  • PLUMBERS/PIPEFITTERS LOCAL 262
  • OPERATING ENGINEERS 302
  • IRONWORKERS 751/PILEDRIVERS 2520
  • PAINTERS LOCAL 1140
  • SHEET METAL WORKERS LOCAL 23
  • TEAMSTERS LOCAL 959
  • UAS Career Education Automotive, Construction, Diesel, and Health Sciences
The event showcased construction apprenticeship opportunities and UAS Career Education to approximately 400 8th graders from both Floyd Dryden and Dzantik’i Heeni middle schools, and 500 9th through 12th graders from Juneau Douglas and Yaakoosge Daakahidi high schools.
