Ribbon Cutting for New UAS and MEHS Sign
The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus and Mt. Edgecumbe High School are celebrating the installation of their new sign at the corner of Seward Avenue and Harbor Drive.
A ribbon cutting took place on December
10, 2009 and was attended by Jeff Johnston, UAS Sitka
Campus Director; Bernie Gurule, Mt. Edgecumbe Principle;
Norm Campbell, UAS Adjunct Faculty and sign designer;
and Marcus Lee, Owner of Leecraft, sign manufacturer
and installer, Malorie Johnson and Charles Grammer, Mt.
Edgecumbe students.
The design for the new sign came about after Jeff Johnston saw a brushed metal sign at a college up north and approached Mt. Edgecumbe High School officials with the idea. Norm Campbell was asked to design the sign with the attributes of UAS and Mt. Edgecumbe High School. After a couple of months of design work and collaboration with Marcus Lee, the design was finalized. Marcus Lee fabricated the sign from aluminum and stainless steel using a special technique to achieve the brushed and rusted metal look. The new sign provides a welcoming first impression for parents, students and visitors of the two campuses.
