Clam Soup Sounds Delicious!

“Clam Soup”, a poem by UAS English major and student worker Grace Lumba is a winner for the Poetry Omnibus 2010 project.

The project is put on by organizers/editors Robyn Holloway and Deb Corso (also a UAS student) and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council. “Clam Soup” will be published on a placard on one of Juneau’s Capital Transit buses and is placed for a year. “Woo!” said the poet.

There is a reception and public reading March 13th, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Downtown Public Library.

Clam Soup by Grace Lumba
Driving in a big white truck
Out the road, buckets rattling
Mom, dad, sister and me
Waiting for the smell of ocean
To seep through open windows

Bubbles in sand
Mark the clam’s breath
Finally our shovels smack
The hard-packed Earth

We dig. And dig. For dinner.
