Updates on new Vice Provost, Strategic Planning and Emeritus Process
The latest message from the Provost Richard Caulfield
WELCOME VICE PROVOST CAROL HEDLIN
With support from Chancellor Pugh, I've appointed Carol Hedlin, longtime UAS faculty member and Director of Regional Library Services, as Vice Provost. This follows a failed internal and external nationwide search. Vice Provost Hedlin begins work on October 18. Her new office will be in Hendrickson Annex. Elise Tomlinson will step into the role of Interim Director of Regional Library Services.
INPUT INVITED--UAS STRATEGIC AND ASSESSMENT PLANNING
A draft UAS mission statement plus draft core themes and values are now available for review and comment by all members of the UAS community. See www.uas.alaska.edu/provost/sap10_17.html for a copy of these drafts. On this same webpage you'll find a means of offering direct feedback to the UAS Strategic and Assessment Planning Team. Please discuss these drafts with colleagues and coworkers and offer your ideas and feedback. The third of four Planning Team meetings will take place on Friday, November 5.
REVIEW OF EMERITUS RECOGNITION PROCESS
In concert with Faculty Senate, we’re reviewing the process and timeline for submitting nominations for emeritus recognition at UAS. Board of Regents policy specify who is eligible for such consideration and how such nominations are reviewed and approved. We hope to finalize this information by early November so that any nominations for the coming year can be considered in a timely way.
With recent high winds and stormy weather, it’s important to be mindful of how to handle power outages. Back up your computer regularly, have a flashlight handy, and turn off switches when the power goes out.
