Alaska Native Oratory Statewide Competition 2011
University of Alaska Southeast students placed in each category at the annual Alaska Native Oratory Society Statewide Competition on Saturday April 16.
The event is hosted by UAA’s Alaska Native Studies program. Eighteen students competed in four speaking categories: Oratory, Storytelling, Native Language and Commemorative Narration. Judges and audience members related how the speeches were "powerful," "moving," and "very well done."
Konrad Frank received Honors in Oratory and 2nd place in Commemorative Narration. Joe Yates placed 3rd in Storytelling for Haida War Canoe and 2nd in Native Language for What Can We Do To Stop. Julianne Frank received Honors in Native Language for Revitalization of the Tlingit Language.
