A year of presentations, publications and grants

Over the past year, Adjunct Instructor of History Zachary Ray Jones gave two presentations, had a paper published and a grant awarded.

Presentations:

"'To know of their own heritage,’ Tlingit Indian Response to the Indian Self-Determination & Education Assistance Act of 1975,” Alaska Historical Society’s Annual Conference, Sitka, Sept. 2011.

"To Interpret or Not to Interpret: Contrived Photographs of Indigenous Peoples in Archives,” Presented at the International Conference of Tribal Libraries, Archives, & Museums, Tulsa, Oklahoma, June 2012.

Publication:

“Clan At.óowu in Distant Lands: A Survey of Tlingit Art in European and Russian Museums,” Box of Knowledge 1, no. 1 (April 2012): 1-35.

Grant:

Project Director, Indian Wars in Alaska: The 1869 Battle of Wrangell, NPS American Battlefield Protection Program Grant, 2012-2014. $31,000. Funded research to document the battle and battlefield for the 1869 Battle of Wrangell between the Tlingit and the U.S. Army. Link to press release.
