Xh’unei at first Alaska Native Studies Conference
The University of Alaska Southeast may host next year’s event.
Assistant Professor of Alaska Native Languages Xh’unei Lance A. Twitchell presented at the first Alaska Native Studies Conference at the University of Alaska Anchorage April 6-10. The conference involved faculty from UAS, UAA, UAF, Kodiak College, and students of Alaska Native Studies programs in Alaska and elsewhere. The event kicked off with a preconference symposium titled “The Things We Make: Alaska Native Art in the 21st Century.” More than 250 attendees participated in approximately 50 workshops and events covering indigenous, cultural and academic education. Events were held on the UAA campus, and at the Anchorage Museum and the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Provost and Vice Chancellor Elisha Baker said he looks forward to future annual conferences. The University of Alaska Southeast may host next year’s event.
