Nominations open for both Staff Make Students Count and Staff Excellence Awards

Staff Make Students Count

The Staff Make Students Count Award, established in the spring of 1999, recognizes university staff who have provided outstanding service to students anywhere in the UA system, including rural campuses and extended sites.  Each recipient receives an award plaque, $1,000 and two domestic airline vouchers.  All nominees receive a certificate of nomination.  The university president presents the awards at a Board of Regents meeting, usually in June.  Those eligible include all regular full-time permanent and part-time permanent exempt and non-exempt staff employed by the University of Alaska.  Service to students may include service as part of the job or as volunteer service, either directly or indirectly to current or prospective students.  Please complete the nomination form (see attached) or visit http://www.alaska.edu/governance/staff-alliance/staff-make-students-count/.  Submit the nomination form along with a letter of nomination containing an explanation of the service provided to students and three letters of endorsement from those knowledgeable of the contributions made by the applicant/nominee.  Letters from students are encouraged.

Please submit your nomination packets to Dayna Mackey through one of the below methods (if you send outside of email, please send a quick email to say the method you are sending the packet):

Staff Excellence Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding staff excellence in past, present and continued service to the UAS Community.  Staff eligible for this award includes all UAS benefit-eligible, non-executive staff including Local 6070 who have not received the award in the previous five years.  There will be four staff award recipients (2 in Juneau, 1 each in Sitka and Ketchikan).  Recipients will receive a plaque and a choice between either $500 or 1 day of annual leave.  Awards will be presented at Staff Development Day in May and the recipients’ names will be published in Soundings.  Nominations are encouraged from UAS faculty, staff, students and/or community members. Each nomination should be separate, only one nominator per nomination.  Please see attached for more criteria.

Submit your online nomination no later than March 31, 2015 by 5 pm.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to recognize the outstanding work of our UAS colleagues.
