Heather will send an email to the officers for acceptance. Staff Training, Needs Assessment results: There will be a meeting the first Wednesday of every month beginning Sept 5, 2007 (10:00am-noon), Chancellor Pugh will give the first Orientation Seminar, which will be streamed to Ketchikan and Sitka each month. Childcare: Chancellor Pugh, Dean of Education, Larry Harris, and Heather met with Auke Bay Co-op at Chapel by the Lake. The meeting went well but it looks like they are not willing to add any more slots. Heather would like to meet with Gold Creek next. They handle the State and Coast Guard child care. Sheldon Jackson follow up: The gym has reopened with limited access and the University has picked up some of the students. Snack Wars: Juneau’s first “Snack Wars” was a success. With 21 people touring the participating departments, Stephanie from WIN for Alaska was the group leader. There were two waves of people going through. It is very helpful in the ”Building the Community” concept. People were meeting people from other departments for the first time and it provided a great healthy social atmosphere. It was mentioned that Stephanie has contracted with WIN for Alaska to work at the Juneau Campus as needed. WIN will be visiting other campuses. They would like to be contacted, through the generic email system available, and will forward the messages to the necessary people. Staff Alliance update: Heather attended a video conference with Kirk McAllister, Stephanie, and with people from the Anchorage and Fairbanks campuses. There has been about 50 million spent on health care, and it is expected to go up to 90 million over the next couple of years. There has been a push to keep cost down through the Wellness initiative. The rate of increase in wellness attention: Dec- June : Email: up 125% \ Interest in Wellness: up 32% Health Activity Track: up 43% Personal Health Plan: up 216% Original formula was just to have “talks” with folks - the new wellness breaks have changed to include Smoothies, snack talks, massages etc - more of a drop-in style of workshop. They would like to have departments invite them. One of the most interesting items that came from the meeting is the realization that dependants are welcome to partake of the WIN program. WIN would like to encourage the Chancellors and other executives to participate in the programs. Heather and Bobbi will be going to Fairbanks for the Staff Alliance retreat next week. Campus Reports: Juneau: Snack Wars success, enrollment day is today and student orientation is coming up soon. Convocation Aug 20-23. Ketchikan: Gwenna says that they are gearing up for enrollment. There was a booth at the Blueberry festival and they were able to enroll some people there. They will be having another enrollment day on the 18th. Orientation will follow. Staff Development Day is Wednesday august 15th. Sitka: Nicole commented on the artist that were in Sitka recently. The most recent one showed how to do a long scale mural and did a mural of the Alaska Petroglyphs. She also said they were losing 2 people Annnette McConnell, and Wendy Karchut. There was a quite traumatic air plane crash in Sitka a couple of days ago. It really affected the whole community. Ketchikan has also had a recent plane crash that affected their community. Heather mentioned that the bracelets for the “No Whining” campaign are in and will be distributed in Juneau at Staff Convocation/ Development. She is having Sitka and Ketchikan distribute some also.
