Videoconference: Presidential Search Consultant

Time has been scheduled for UAS faculty, staff and students to meet with Dr. Elaine Hairston, the executive search consultant retained for the search for President Mark Hamilton's replacement as executive leader of the UA System. As many of you know, President Hamilton intends to retire on or before June 30, 2010.

The times are as follows:
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. for UAS faculty at Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 3 p.m. for UAS staff at Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka

In Juneau, please join your colleagues in EL 104. In Ketchikan, please check with your Campus Director's Office for the location. In Sitka, the meeting will be in Room 106.

This is our first collective opportunity to meet Dr. Hairston, and to convey our thoughts and concerns about the next person to lead our state's system of higher education. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

BOR Approval of Salary Grid Change

At its meeting on September 25, 2009 the Board of Regents unanimously approved the proposed modifications to the staff compensation grid that were the subject of my September 21 memo to you. More details are available online.

The newly approved grid will not be implemented until June 2010. More information will be available before that time to explain the renumbering of the steps and to let you know whether and by how much your hourly rate of pay will increase. (No one will experience a reduction of pay; the average amount of increase will be 12 cents per hour.)

Joint Health Care Committee

The Joint Health Care Committee combines the creative energies of Unions and Management to explore and develop an in-depth understanding of the University health plan and employee health issues. It makes informed recommendations to the Unions and Management that contribute to improving the quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of the health plan and to improving the lives of University employees and all plan participants.

April 3, 2008: A memo from President Hamilton concerning the changes to staff compensation increases for FY09.

Staff and Faculty Development Seminars

Staff Council and Faculty Development have been working closely to help build community between staff and faculty. All UAS staff, faculty and adjuncts are welcome to attend these seminars.

The seminars are held in the Media Classroom (Egan Library 104) and are available via live Web stream and video conference to those who are unable to attend in person.

Faculty Development Seminars are every Thursday from 1 - 2 pm.

Staff Development Seminars are the first Wednesday of each month

The political campaign and legislative season is upon us again, and questions will come up regarding candidate appearances and political communications. Please read this memo from Michael Hostina, Associate General Counsel &
