In Juneau

The Juneau Campus Student Housing is set into the hillside near Auke Lake, within a short 15 minute walk from campus, the Student Recreation Center, and a city
bus stop.

Student Housing is comprised of Banfield Hall, Single Student Apartments, and the main Housing Lodge. All residents have 24-hour access to the Housing Lodge which includes a fireplace, wireless Internet access, game room, laundry, television lounge and space for studying and club meetings. The Bear’s Pantry is available for residents to purchase snacks and convenience items seven days a week. The Lodge Desk is where residents can pick up mail and ask general questions. The Lodge is also a site for many community activities. Outside there is a sheltered barbeque pavilion, and a small basketball court. Parking is limited to one vehicle per single student, a permit is required.

Not only is it a great place to change out and there are awesome events happening, but the REC Center in Juneau has lots of amazing features for our students to take advantage of:

Climbing Wall - All climbers are required to take a climbing orientation session. Scheduled sessions are posted on the climbing board.

Courts - There is a multi-purpose basketball, volleyball, and badminton court in the main gym.

Weight Room - The weight room consists of free weights, Nautilus machines, and Paramount stations.

Aerobics Floor - The floor is available for multi-purpose use when classes are not in session. Aerobics, yoga, and dance classes are held weekly. We also have dumbbells, stability balls, kickboxing gear, medicine balls and yoga mats available for use.

Lockers/Showers - Lockers can be rented for $1 day use or $20 for the entire year (Fall-Summer). Showers are available for members in both the men's and women's locker rooms.

Student Activities Center - The SAC multi-use facility has the ability to host dances, major motion films, musicians, televised big screen events, billiards & ping pong competitions, as wells as a place for students to hang out, socialize, and relax.

Cardiovascular Equipment - There are Treadmills, Stairmasters, Lifecycles, Elliptical Machines, and a Cross Trainer Rowing/Kayak Machine located upstairs on the far end of the running track.

Running Track - A 3 lane, 14 lap outer lane mile, 17 lap inner lane running track circles above the second floor of the gymnasium.

Outdoor Rental Center - The ORC is a great resource to the UAS community for outdoor gear needs, information, and instruction provided by our student outdoor programmers. Rental equipment includes aquatic, camping, snow, safety, and accessory gear.

Concessions - A wide variety of beverages, snacks, and candy are available for purchase at the REC Center Help Desk. Please keep all food and drinks in designated areas.

The Learning Center is a distinguished center of academic support that is celebrated as one of the most popular study spots on the Juneau Campus. Each year, hundreds of students make the LC their center of academic life, coming both to consult our tutors on homework questions and to team up with other students facing the same challenges as themselves.

The Egan Library is also a great place to study, with great lighting, desks, couches and study rooms, students can find the perfect spot to study for that big test.

The Mourant Cafeteria has a wide variety of great foods to choose from, ranging from the salad bar, hot line, the grab-n-go, and the grill. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, the Cafe is a great place to eat and hang out!

The UAS Health Clinic is located below the cafeteria in the Mourant Building. Appointments can be made by calling the Student Resource Center at 796-6000.

Students are eligible to use the clinic if they are taking at least 6 credits through UAS Juneau. Check out the link below for details on this. Clinic visits are free, but there are small charges for medicines and sometimes  pap smears.

Students can be seen for almost any illness or problem. This includes things such as acute minor illnesses, injuries, rashes, gynecological issues, depression, and chronic problems such as asthma etc. The Family Nurse Practitioner can diagnose, prescribe medication, or refer to a specialist, such as a psychiatrist or orthopedic physician, as needed. Required exams for various programs or employment are possible as well as general check-ups.

TB skin tests, STD tests, pap smears, and a few other labs are available at the clinic.

The Native and Rural Student Center, also known as the NRSC or the Center, offers staff and support services to promote student success in college through; academic advising and support, assistance with registration, course selection and scheduling, as well as peer advising, mentoring, special orientations.  Additionally, the Center offers opportunities and special events on and off campus to help develop leadership skills in the student members.

The Juneau campus has classrooms, labs, a computer lab, wireless lounge, study rooms and study cubicles for students to use all over campus. Rooms can also be used by student clubs for events. 

The Juneau campus is 100% wireless, so you can use your laptops to access the Internet anywhere on campus, Housing or the REC Center.

Then the UAS Student Clubs are the perfect thing for you! UAS has numerous clubs and organizations for students to participate in, and if we do not currently have what you are looking for, all you need is 5 other students and we can create just the club you need!

UAS Student Government, is responsible for representing student interests to the university administration and for facilitating the organization of a broad range of student committees that work to address issues and concerns and promote services that enhance students’ experience at UAS. 

Elections are held each spring to fill President,Vice President, and five senator positions, with two positions reserved for Fall semester which are held in September of each year.  Student Government is composed of a President, Vice President, and seven (7) senators.  President and Vice President have detailed job descriptions and Senators work on specific projects identified by the senate each semester.

Any student (enrolled for 3 credits of ongoing semester -long courses) with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 is eligible to apply for a senate position.

The Whalesong is the official Juneau campus newspaper, and is published entirely by students.

Opportunities for involvement include writing articles, marketing, advertising, photography and layout design.

The Whalesong office is located in the lower level Mourant building, room 124.
