Portfolio Assistance
The writing tutors are familiar with requirements for English 110, BLA/BEd, and other entry/exit portfolios. Regular appointments can be scheduled with the Writing Center tutors to discuss portfolio progress. Sample portfolios and cover letters are available for review at the Writing Center. If you have questions about any of the requirements, please make an appointment with a writing tutor.
Tutoring in Foreign Languages and Sciences:
The Learning Center offers a variety of language and science tutors. French, Spanish, and Russian tutors are usually available during the semester. Our science tutors can help you with Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, and Biology. We may also have tutors in other disciplines, depending on current enrollment and student needs.
Since language and science tutors are scheduled upon demand, it's in your best interest to let us know as early as possible that you are interested in having a tutor in a particular subject, as well as hours that will work best for you.
Workshops
In addition to one-on-one tutoring, we also schedule workshops. These can cover everything from how to use a calculator to guidelines for APA format to time management. Workshops will be scheduled as needed. Look for flyers around campus and at the Learning Center, or call us at 465-6348 for more information.
Resources
You may check out math videos and older textbooks. Current textbooks are available for use at the Learning Center, but cannot be checked out. Calculators are also available for use at the Learning Center. We also have a collection of old tests (some of which are available for downloading from this site) and sample papers and handouts for different disciplines. Check with us to see if what we have might be useful to you.
A reader machine can be reserved for use at the Learning Center. We also have four computers with Maple, Geometer Sketchpad, and TI-Graph Link programs for math and science students.
Make a Suggestion
We are happy to try to arrange tutors for any subject. If you would like to arrange to have a tutor for a subject not mentioned here, please call us (or have your instructor call us) at 796-6348. If there is not enough demand for a particular tutor, we may refer you to the current list of private tutors. If you are fluent in a foreign language or have taken a number of science courses, be sure to let us know if you are interested in either doing private tutoring or working for the Learning Center.
