Question #4 How do you find the money to pay for college?

Check for Federal Grants

Federal Aid covers school expenses -- including tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, and transportation.

Federal Aid is based on a student's demonstrated financial need rather than on grades.

There are three categories of Grants:
  • Federal Pell Grants
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
  • Federal Work Study
  • This is financial aid you do not have to repay. Generally you must be an undergraduate student, and the amount you receive usually depends on your need, cost of attendance, and enrollment status (full time or part time).

    Grant Amounts

For 2003-04, Federal Pell Grants ranged from $400 to $4050. Amounts for each year depend on program funding.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) amounts range from $100 to $4000.

    Federal Work Study

  • Money is earned while you attend school
  • Does not have to be repaid
  • Undergraduate and graduate students
  • Jobs can be on campus or off campus
  • Students are paid at least minimum wage
