Military -- Applying to Academies

1. Contact your representative
2. Request the "Pre-Candidate Questionnaire"
3. Take the standardized tests
4. What academies look for




1. During the spring semester of your junior year (beginning of March), students need to contact the Alaska congressional representatives at their Alaskan offices for nomination packets.

2. At the same time, request the "Pre-Candidate Questionnaire" from the directors of admissions of the academies.

You may wish to apply to more than one academy.



3. Be sure to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Test (ACT) at least once during your sophomore year.

Application forms usually request SAT scores and your high school transcript.



4. All academies stress the following:
  • High school grades
  • Grade point average
  • Class rank
  • Leadership qualities
  • Recommendations and references
  • Extracurricular activities
  • SAT/ACT (take both, more than once is suggested)
  • Volunteer service
