Question #5 What can you do to succeed in college?

Student Activities

Student activities are critical in enhancing the quality of life in college. The best colleges provide customer service and offer student activity programs that students need and like. Students feel connected to the college by participating in student activities.

Student activity examples:
  • Student Government
  • Intramurals (All Sports)
  • Intercollegiate Sports provided by bigger Universities
  • Fitness Centers
  • Social programs (dances, concerts, movies, etc.)
  • Outdoor recreation programs
  • Student clubs
  • Recreational activities
  • As university size increases, you will usually see an increase of student activities available to participate in.

Findings conducted by the University of Pennsylvania indicate that students participating in college activities report:
  • Increased ability to talk with students who are different from themselves
  • Greater understanding of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on others
  • Increased feelings of connection to their school community
  • Stronger interest in getting good grades
  • More positive communication with teachers
