Question #6 How Do You Select A Major?

Examine Possibilities

In examining the issue of selecting a major, the question always comes up What am I going to do when I grow up?

You will probably change careers and jobs throughout your lifetime. To get started you must first examine some possibilities.
What jobs or careers do you have an interest in?
Refer to the Occupational Outlook Handbook to look into some jobs or careers of interest.

You can gather information in one of three ways:
  • To find specific career or occupational information click on OOH Search/A-Z index (located in the upper right corner of the page,) and then enter the occupation's name in the Search OOH box.

  • To find out about multiple occupations, browse through listings using the occupational cluster links to the right of the screen.

  • For a listing of all occupations in alphabetical order, click on the OOH Search/A-Z Index link and select a letter.
  • Take note of at least three jobs or careers that interest you.
