While I haven’t been a member of TRiO for my entire college career, I have enjoyed many of the benefits provided byTRiO. This program has helped me to realize and accomplish my goals of graduating from UAS and going on to law school by affording me the opportunity to speak with others who have gone through similar situations. The TRiO staff has always been positive, encouraging, and welcoming of all the issues, questions, and problems I have brought to them.

TRiO has helped me in several ways.They let me borrow a very expensive calculator, saving me lots of money.They offer scholarships and alert me when I am eligible for non-TRiO scholarships, and when they are available. What’s most important is that they are an amazing support system for students. Carol is always around when you need to talk about classes or just need a friend!

I first heard of TRiO from the questionnaire I filled out prior to placement testing. I participate because as a 20 year old non-Alaska resident without parental or other such support, TRiO is as important to my success as my own determination. Beside the very tangible services of TRiO: calculator, jump drive, and laptop loans, resume workshops, etc. it’s invaluable just to have someone to check in with, to answer questions, to problem-solve with,and to get excited for you when things are going well.

TRiO is a service that helps students solve academic problems. They have Math and English tutors to help students over the bumps that get in the way of achieving their academic goals. TRiO hosts many workshops throughout each semester. TRiO also has a wide variety of scholarships to help students meet their educational costs. Try them out, you will find the time well spent.

Originally, I was drawn to TRiO in order to apply for financial assistance. However, I have found the support of the TRiO program to be most valuable. I have benefited by gaining access to the cultural events and continued learning from events like the resume workshop. The TRiO staff has been extremely friendly and ready to help in very practical ways.

I feel that participating in TRiO has helped me in a number of ways. First, participating has allowed me to get a campus job as a math/science tutor that I feel has helped me immensely with my other coursework as well as providing a convenient source of income. The second reason is that the TRiO staff has been so incredibly helpful for me in attaining my goals for this semester and also for internship positions over the summer. I noticed an amazingly helpful attitude with my job resume and I really don’t think that I would have stood a chance for a summer internship without receiving that help. I originally joined TRiO because I needed a calculator for math, but I now know that I’ve gotten a lot more out of TRiO then just a calculator. The staff has made me feel right at home even though this is my first semester at UAS and I’m extremely grateful for that.

I am so grateful to participate in and be a member of the TRiO program. It is so wonderful to have contact with people that care about you and what you are doing as a student. Any time I needed help TRiO provided it to me the next day. If I am in good standing, academically, it is because of TRiO.

TRiO has helped with financial needs: transportation, books, pencils, note paper. They provide laptop computers which have helped me finish English assignments on time. I do not own a laptop, and without the TRiO loan program I would have to take a bus to use one- which would eat three or four hours of needed study time. TRiO has helped me revise my resume and find work that will increase my employment opportunities.
