Position SummaryThis position will provide editorial and production direction and supervise student reporters working for the campus newspaper—The Whalesong.
QualificationsMust be highly competent in journalistic-style writing, grammar and English composition. Must have demonstrated written communication skills. Must be familiar with use of Macintosh SE computers and laser printer. Experience with MS Word, Pagemaker and Photoshop preferred. Must show good interpersonal skills and demonstrate an ability to work with students, faculty and administration. Preference given to those with previous experience on Whalesong staff or another newspaper publication.
Major Duties1) Comply with established policies and guidelines of the paper. 2) Meet all deadlines associated with the paper. 3) Determine story content, design and packaging of student newspaper as well as story assignment and deadlines for completion. 4) Responsible for operating within established budget, including generation of advertising revenues and sales. 5) Determine content of editorial page. 6) consult advisors on controversial editorial issues and make any final editorial decisions based on content. 7) Responsible for equipment and office access and security. 8) Order supplies and establish printing contracts with help of advisor. 9) Represent newspaper to public in a way that enhances the reputation of UAS.
Hours
Compensation$1,000.00 stipend per semester paid in bimonthly installments. Includes in-state tuition waiver—up to 12 credit hours.
