Prior to joining the faculty of UAS, I spent 25 years working in management and marketing positions for large and small companies throughout the U.S. and Canada. For 15 of those years, I was involved in either intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial work. I’m the faculty adviser for a UAS student group called Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), which seeks to connect younger and older generations of leaders to create a better world through the positive power of business. For the past three years, UAS students have competed and won awards at SIFE regional competitions in Seattle and in Honolulu. I also help out with the University of Alaska’s Center for Economic Development and the Southeast Conference’s Economic Development Committee. It is so rewarding to watch as students light up when they not only understand the material in class, but also apply it to their own Alaskan jobs – or to their entrepreneurial dreams.
