How do you think UAS is preparing you for your future?
I am enrolled in the Social Science Program at UAS and there are undeniable advantages of the program. The ability to choose three concentration areas is quite useful because it gives the opportunity to grasp three different subjects instead of one and develop a broader outlook on things. The social science program will serve as a strong founding stone for my future education and career.
Do you know what you might be thinking of for a career after college?
I have always enjoyed studying economics, and I see myself working as a business economist.
Do you have a favorite class or professor?
I do have several favorite classes and professors who have made considerable contributions in my career as a student. Robin Walz is one of them; I took his Social Science Seminar class (SSCI101) during my sophomore year. Robin is one of the best professors; he has many years of experience and passion for his profession.
I owe Britteny Cioni my decision to become an economist. She puts so much energy and devotion into her Micro and Macro economic classes.
WHY UAS?
I have always been fascinated with Alaska, its ambivalent nature and diverse weather conditions. UAS is located in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Also, I am coming from Russia, and Juneau happens to be a sister city of my hometown.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself at UAS?
I realized how much I enjoy being a student, constantly learning new things every day!
What surprised you the most once you arrived at UAS?
The campus is located on the lake and it is surrounded with huge trees. When I first landed in Juneau, I was amazed by the clean air and beautiful landscape.
What was the most fun you’ve had at any campus event?
I enjoyed the barbeque at the campus pavilion. It was a great idea to get together on one of the rainy spring afternoons and spend time next to a fire.
What is the best thing about life at UAS?
UAS is a relatively small and a very friendly community. The best thing about life at UAS is that there are always people you know around, and school has many fun activities to offer.
What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
During my free time I enjoy walking in downtown Juneau and taking pictures. Juneau has a small downtown overlooking the bay. Also I like hiking and spending time outdoors, there is a great variety of trails and scenic points around the University and downtown.
If you could choose three words that signify UAS, what would they be?
Supportive. Outgoing. Environment.
