Name: Kristina Paulick
Hometown: Juneau, Alaska
Academic Program at UAS: BBA with Accounting Emphasis
How do you think UAS is preparing you for your future?
I can take all of the classes I need to take to get my BBA degree right here at UAS. By taking my classes here and getting an internship in a few years (while taking classes), I should be able to take my C.P.A. right after graduating!
Do you know what you might be thinking of for a career after college?
I would really like to take my C.P.A. test after finishing my BBA degree and work at a firm or at the state as an accountant.
Do you have a favorite class or professor?
I like all of my instructors! However, if I had to pick my favorites, I would choose Dr. John D'Armand, my vocal coach, and my Accounting instructor, Professor Vickie Williams.
I've grown up with UAS! I live ten minutes away from UAS and have been on campus many times for various events. After high school, I went to another university on a music scholarship, but it wasn't a "good fit" for me. I am much happier with my classes, teachers, and the friendly atmosphere at UAS! I also really like that I can go to UAS and still work at the same time without overloading myself.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself at UAS?
I'm not too bad at creating and running clubs and I really enjoy mathematics and accounting!
What surprised you the most when you arrived at UAS?
The most surprising thing to me was how many people I knew at UAS already and how easy it was to make friends here.
What is the most fun you've had at a campus event?
I really enjoyed the Non-Homecoming dance that Student Activities put together- it was a ton of fun! I also really like the Juneau Jazz & Classics campus day (in May/June)- I love listening and performing music and campus day is a great opportunity to do both!
What is the best thing about life at UAS?
There are a LOT of great parts of life at UAS! Some of my favorite things include hanging out and studying with friends at the Learning Center, getting coffee at Spikes, and getting to rehearse with Alaskapella (the UAS a cappella choir).
What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
I play French horn in the Juneau Symphony and other organizations around town, am on Alaska Youth Choir's Board of Directors (as their secretary), and sing in Alaskapella, the Juneau Lyric Opera, and the Juneau Cabaret (I love jazz!). I especially like anime and manga as well as cooking, cosplay, and working with numbers (accounting- and mathematics-wise). I also enjoy arranging, cataloguing, and composing music, and making other people laugh!
If you could choose three words that signify UAS, what would they be?
Community, culture, and friends.
