I decided to attend UAS because of the low cost, the great biology program, and the opportunities that I believed I would have as an undergraduate because of the small class sizes.
What is the best thing about life at UAS?
The small class size, the opportunities for hands-on research, and the relaxed environment.
How do you think UAS is preparing you for your future?
The biology programs and classes at UAS are phenomenal…there are so many opportunities for students to participate in undergraduate research and many lab classes incorporate local fauna and flora and outdoor/hands-on approaches.
Do you know what you might be thinking of for a career after college?
After completing my BA in Biology I will be applying to the one year Masters in Arts of Teaching program at UAS.
Do you have a favorite class or professor?
Some of my favorite classes that I have taken at UAS are invertebrate zoology, marine mammalogy, zooarchaeology, and ethnobiology.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself at UAS?
Gaining the courage to talk to professors makes life (and grades!) much better in the long run! And asking for help is one of the most important things…we all fail sometimes, but you just have to do better the next time around!
What surprised you the most once you arrived at UAS?
How large the residence halls are compared to other colleges! and only 3 other people share the same bathroom…not a whole floor! Also how helpful other students and professors were during my first year.
What was the most fun you’ve had at any campus event?
Although it not technically an “event” I went on a National Student Exchange to the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon and learned a lot and had a great time!
What do you enjoy doing during your free time?
Rearticulating skeletons, shark necropsies, dog walking, and cooking!
If you could choose three words that signify UAS, what would they be?
Chill. Rigorous. Worth It.
