Low Cost, Non-Credit Options for UAS Alaska Native Language & Arts Classes

Community members interested in studying Alaska Native languages or Northwest Coast arts at UAS, but who are not interested in academic credit, can now pay a modest fee to participate in classroom instruction. Classes begin August 28.
Included are beginning and intermediate classes in Tlingit language, taught by Ḵaagwáaskʼ (Ishmael Hope) and Du Aaní Kawdinook Xh'unei (Lance Twitchell). Northwest Coast Arts Design will be offered by Abel Ryan. Xeetli.éesh (Lyle James) will be teaching drum-making. A notable addition to the faculty this year is Artist in Residence Yéil Ya-Tseen (Nicholas Galanin), from Sitka, whose classes will also be a part of this special offer for community members.
The course fee is $75 per equivalent credit hour (other fees may also apply). By paying this fee, the participant understands that no academic credit is provided and the course cannot be applied toward any degree.
