Rhodochrosite (Carbonate)


Hardness: 3.5 - 4.0
Specific Gravity: 3.7

Characteristics: Usually pink; vitreous luster; transparent or translucent; rhombohedral cleavage; insoluble in cold HCl, however, effervesces and is soluble in hot concentrated HCl.

Found in hydrothermal deposits of silver, lead, or copper, as well as manganese deposits.

Rhodochrosite is used as a minor ore of manganese as well as mineral specimen for collections and ornament.
