Crocoite (Chromate)

Hardness: 2.5 - 3.0
Specific Gravity: 6.0

Characteristics: Orange red; adamantine luster; perfect cleavage in one direction; thin prismatic crystals often have striations parallel to prism faces. May be poisonous.

Found as a rare secondary Pb mineral associated with veined lead deposits; may be found with cerussite, pyromorphite, or wulfenite.

Crocoite's uses include intrinsic value for mineral collections and in artist's paints. The ore, however, is too rare to be useful commercially.
