Characteristics: Origin of name from Middle English sulphur, meaning 'brimstone'; produces blue flame; resinous luster; no cleavage; unpleasant smell, even at room temperature.
Found in volcanic deposits; some evaporites.
Sulfur is used in the production of sulfuric acid, fertilizers, fungicides, dyes, petroleum refining, chemicals and explosives.
