State Investment Officer Summer Intern

Vacancy Announcement: The State of Alaska, Department of Revenue, Treasury Division, seeks applicants for the position of State Investment Officer Summer Intern for anticipated work during the months of May through August 2020. Starting and ending date of the position will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the hiring.

Position Summary: In collaboration with the investment team at Treasury, this position will be responsible for assisting fixed income, public equity, private equity, absolute return, and real estate investment staff in conducting various investment-related research, special projects, and documentation.

The successful candidate must have a good academic background, strong quantitative skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to learn about investments.

Potential Duties:

  •  Assist in the on-going performance monitoring and due diligence of existing and prospective investment managers.
  •  Gain a basic understanding of managing a portfolio of public equity investment money managers.
  •  Assist in the monitoring of investment holdings and market exposures.
  •  Assist in optimal portfolio rebalancing.
  •  Perform alternative investment risk and return proxy research.
  •  Assist in dynamic private/public equity asset allocation.
  •  Evaluate private real estate vs public REITS, the optimal mix of core/non-core real estate, and the optimal mix of real assets.
  •  Assist in the analysis of corporate actions and proxy voting.
  •  Review past performance compared to benchmarks and help identify areas for improvement.
  •  Analyze trade data and transaction costs to help improve trading strategies.
  •  Assist in the analysis of new portfolio strategies.
  •  Assist in performing industry analysis and fundamental credit research.
  •  Collect and organize prospecti for fixed income corporate bond holdings.
  •  Prepare ad-hoc reports and research as directed.
