David J. Sheakley-Early was born in Juneau, Alaska. He grew up mostly in Erie, Pennsylvania but moved back to Juneau in 2002. His Tlingit name is Yéil yádi and from the Raven moiety. He is T’akdeintaan and Shangukeidí yádi from Hoonah.

There was a bit of a break in David’s post-secondary education as he started at the University of Pittsburgh-main campus, then pursued a photography career for 19 years, and then went back to school at the University of Alaska, Southeast where he completed associate, bachelor, and master’s degrees.

David also worked as a teacher, naturalist, trail hiking guide, ski and snowboard instructor, salmon caviar technician, general boat maintenance and auto-mechanic, limo driver, and small business owner. Rounding out his talents, David is also an artist and percussionist with the Juneau Bagpipe Band and various jazz groups. Certainly not last, he is a husband and father of two lovely girls and two handsome boys.

Some of his work can be seen at on his personal website.
