There are many reasons why your Collaborate Classic session may not open. Here are a few of the most common:

  • Blackboard Collaborate has encountered an exception: This message usually pops up for first time users. Just click "Don't Send", and it should connect to your session.
  • I click on the "Join Room" button in my course, but nothing happens: Some browsers may not indicate that your Collaborate session file has been downloaded. Open the "Downloads" menu in your browser, and you should see a file called "meeting.collab". Double click on that file, and the session should launch. If you see multiple, open the latest one.
  • When trying to connect to a webmeeting, I get the message, "this application is from an unidentified developer": Mac users will receive this message, and can get around it by going to the Apple menu Apple menu icon > System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General tab. Click on the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter in your administrator credentials for that computer. Then, where it says "Allow apps downloaded from..." select "App Store and identified developers". You may also be prompted to manually open the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher in the field below.
  • I click "Join Room", but it asks to "Download Launcher": If your browser doesn't recognize that you've installed the launcher then it will prompt you to download it. If you haven't downloaded the launch on this computer, click the button to download. If you have, there is a link below that to "Launch Blackboard Collaborate now" that you can use instead.
