Summary

Campus Recreation Assistant is responsible for monitoring those entering the facility and ensuring the safe usage of the REC Center. This is a mid-level entry position that includes cash handling. Knowledge of customer service, recreation, and wellness. Responsible for checking out REC Center equipment, monitoring the entrance and exit, checking in guests and members, and maintaining a clean, friendly environment, completing rounds in facility. Other responsibilities may include fitness and wellness programming, event set-up, and display creation. We are looking for self-motivated team players that enjoy spending time at the REC Center and taking advantage of its diverse facility offerings. Staff will also assist with opening and closing of REC Center facility. Major Duties

  1. Oversee the safe usage of the Recreation & Student Activities Center.
  2. Monitor entry and exit of users of the Recreation Center Facility.
  3. Use the cash register when selling concessions, memberships and other equipment. Assist with reconciliation and create deposit report.
  4. Roam facility areas for safe use of equipment and safety of participants.
  5. Maintain and inventory equipment on a scheduled basis.
  6. Perform regular inspection and light cleaning of REC Center exercise equipment.
  7. Assist with academic class and activity set-up when scheduled.
  8. Assist with event set-up, ticket sales and event take down when appropriate to schedule.
  9. Perform equipment inventory on a scheduled basis.
  10. Rent equipment from the Outdoor Recreation Center and assist with repairs when requested.
  11. Attend appropriate staff workshops and meetings.
  12. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Salary

$14.38 per hour.

Summer REC Center employment includes a summer campus housing subsidy if REC Center employment is maintained. A separate housing subsidy contract must be signed upon accepting this position. This position can easily transfer to the academic year if a positive employment record is maintained.

REC Climbing Wall Coordinator & Rental Gear Specialist is responsible for the safe operation of the REC's climbing facility and the inventory and maintenance of the REC's growing inventory of outdoor gear rentals. Major Duties

  1. Oversee the safe usage of the REC Climbing Facility.
  2. Schedule and coordinate orientation/safety sessions for REC members as well as REC desk staff.
  3. Coordinate the setting of new climbing routes.
  4. Monitor climbing equipment inventory
  5. Assist in the creation of skill/orientation workshop curriculum.
  6. Organize climbing wall realated events and programming.
  7. Perform cleaning, maintenance, and inventory responsibilities of climbing wall equipment and rental gear.
  8. Responsible for knowledge of Climbing Facility Handbook and assist with its creation and/or modification.
  9. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  10. Attend appropriate staff workshops and meetings.

Salary

$14.38 per hour.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation and the guidance of the ODS director, this position will develop, execute, and evaluate outdoor outings open to the UAS student body. These outings will vary from day hikes to multi-night cabin trips off the Juneau road system. Pay can take the form of hourly, program credit hours, or a combination of the two. Interested candidates should be registered for classes in the semester for which they plan to be employed.

Major Duties

Plan, promote, and lead outdoor trips open to the UAS student body. Group size will be limited to ten (10) participants per trip. Guiding assistance on outings is provided by the REC Center Climbing Coordinator/Rental Gear Specialist. Ensure proper safety and instruction guidelines are reviewed before each outing. Collect liability waivers from each participant and request additional insurance if required. As a representative of the University of Alaska Southeast, ensure participants are adhering to the Student Code of Conduct while on outings and report misconduct to the appropriate resource. Act responsibly in back country settings and lead others in safe and fulfilling experiences. Educate others in areas relating to outdoor recreation as appropriate before, during, and after trips. Following outings, ensure trip evaluations are completed and all gear has been returned according to REC Center rental gear policies. Assist REC Center Climbing Coordinator with equipment cleaning/repair if needed. Other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • Student must be taking six (6) credit hours at UAS and be in good academic standing.
  • Must be a current student of the Outdoor Studies Program-ODS and have knowledge and experience with a broad array of outdoor activities.
  • Must have leadership skills, self-reliant, good judgment, be energetic, and be able to motivate others.
  • Must have current certification in Wilderness First Responder/WFR.

Salary

$11.00 per hour and/or practicum credit hours.

Summary

Seeking a part time personal trainer/fitness specialist instructor for the UAS Recreation Center at the University of Alaska Southeast.

Major Duties

  1. Provides personal training/fitness instruction services for the UAS Recreation Center members.
  2. Accesses physical fitness and abilities of clients and class participants
  3. Works with clients and class participants to identify short and long term goals
  4. Teaches safe fitness and exercise techniques and skills
  5. Provides structure, encouragement and motivation to clients and class participants
  6. Provides positive and constructive feedback as needed
  7. Maintains safety as top priority

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of personal training and group exercise techniques, body kinetics, nutrition and safe workout form. Ability to modify and develop strategies for individual success in personal training and fitness instruction. Ability to inspire and motivate clients and participants. Ability to develop individual health/fitness programs. High level of independence of professionalism required.

Required Experience

Teaching experience in group exercise and personal training. Minimum of 5 years in the fitness industry.

Typical Education or Training

Current First Aid and CPR. Personal training certification by an accredited certification program such as ACE (American Council of Exercise), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). Spinning, step aerobics, weight training, high intensity interval training, core conditioning. Personal training.

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety. They should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.This is a part-time/temporary position for the spring semester basketball intramural season.

This is a part-time, temporary staff (Grade 76), assignment with individual REC Center membership privileges. This is an open until filled recruitment with the initial application review taking place on November 26th, 2018. A complete application will include a resume, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references.

Major Duties

  1. Provide positive public relations, program promotion with assistance of Assoc. Director of Campus Recreation. Provide policy education to participants.
  2. Maintain listing of referees from teams, following policy of teams providing referees when not playing. Officiate Intramural contests when needed. Act as score keeper and/or recruit and train score keepers when needed.
  3. Understand emergency/evacuation procedures. Assist with preparation and inspection of the court/game area. Insure court policies are followed and tournament rules are maintained.
  4. Assist with pre and post game logistics. 1. Help to maintain participant eligibility following REC Center Membership Policies. 2. Assist with the recruitment of teams utilizing email, social media and campus sources of advertisement. 3. Insure game statics are maintained by score keeper(s) to include score, time outs, and fouls.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge about intramural sports coordination is required.
  • Ability to create a safe, competitive, and fun environment.
  • Knowledge of court games and rules and Intramural policies.
  • Ability to operate and time/score-keeping board.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs.

Education & Experience

  • One year experience either as an Intramural Sports Coordinator, Basketball referee, or score keeping for local recreational leagues is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is required.
  • Possession of Alaska Driver’s license is preferred.
