Summit

The UAS Writing Center's Collection of Exceptional Academic Works

Summit submissions are now closed for this edition. Students will be informed of their submission status during the second half of March 2024. If you did not get a chance to share your work with us this year, we will reopen submissions in the fall!

To access the complete list of guidelines and the required cover page, please download them here.

Accepted Works

Due to the nature of the journal, Summit will only be accepting academic works that:

  • Are written by an undergraduate student at any of UAS's campuses
  • Are from classes taken during spring, summer, or fall of 2023
  • Qualify as academic writing (no creative works)
  • Do not exceed 15 pages (double spaced), excluding references
  • Present a clear thesis
  • Follow the guidelines outlined here, including filling out the attached cover page

Scoring

Each submission will be judged with the same rubric, which analyzes each paper for how well they reflect scholarly writing and the UAS core competencies of:

  • Information literacy
  • Critical thinking
  • Professional behavior reflected in writing

Essay Contest

The paper that exhibits the strongest mastery of the core competencies will be the recipient of the UAS Ernestine Hayes Award for Excellence in Essay Writing and will be featured with a special spread in the journal. This honor includes prize money furnished by UAS Student Government!
