UAS Research Ethics and Regulatory Compliance

Human Subjects Research - Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Effective July 1, 2016, review of all proposed human subjects research (HSR) is conducted by the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. All questions, submissions, and approvals from UAS faculty, staff, and students are handled by ORI. The UAF ORI can be contacted at uaf-ori@alaska.edu or 907-474-7800 or 907-474-7832.

Animal Subject Research — Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The University's goal is to foster a supportive environment for high quality research, education, and service while ensuring that all use of live vertebrates is adequately justified and conducted by knowledgeable people using the most appropriate methodology. Adherence to basic ethical principles is not only morally right, it is the only means to ensure quality results!

To further this goal, UAS, through cooperation with UAF, has established a comprehensive animal care program addressing all uses of all live vertebrates irrespective of purpose or funding source. At the core of this program is the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) with support provided through the UAF Office of Research Integrity, the UAF Animal Facilities, Veterinary Services, Facilities Services, and the Department Environmental Health and Safety & Risk Management.
