Employment opportunities abound for health information professionals. While many practitioners currently work in hospital settings, expanding opportunities for employment include those in ambulatory, long term care, behavioral health facilities, industrial clinics, state and federal agencies, private industry, and educational facilities.
The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Health Information Management (HIM) degree provides a course of study that prepares entry-level health information professionals to perform a wide variety of functions related to emerging technologies and informatics, coding, data quality and reporting, billing and reimbursement, and management of health care delivery systems.
Potential positions for HIM professionals include:

- Health Information Management Director
- Privacy Director
- Database Analyst
Annual salaries range from $35,000 to $70,000, depending on location and level of skills and experience.
RHIT Certification
This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Graduates are eligible to sit for the AHIMA national registration examination.

Passing this examination entitles one to use the designation RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist) after her/his name.

The Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Management requires completion of English S111.
Placement test scores determine where students start in Math and English courses.
