Campuses

All UAS campuses are in coastal ocean communities; many of our programs take advantage of our locations for marine and maritime study and career opportunities.
Juneau offers housing and a traditional campus life experience as well as on-campus and online classes. With student activities, clubs, a recreation center, and residential halls and apartments, life on the Juneau campus could be considered comparable to attending a small private college.
Ketchikan offers on-campus and online classes and is home to the UAS Maritime Training Center.
Sitka offers on-campus and online classes. The Sitka campus’ signature programs include nursing, fisheries, and construction.
University of Alaska Southeast is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Alaska College of Education is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Overview
The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is a regional university serving all of Southeast Alaska through campuses in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka. Each campus serves its own community and also contributes meaningfully to our regional university. Our foremost goal at UAS is student learning and student success. We pride ourselves on offering programs of high academic quality—both on campus and online—that meet the needs of students and the communities we serve.
UAS is one of three separately-accredited universities that make up the University of Alaska (UA) system. With no community college system in Alaska, UAS has a broad purpose—providing ‘community college,’ baccalaureate, and graduate programs within a single institution. Programs are offered either in person or online, in order to meet student needs across the entire state. UAS has long been recognized for offering programs of distinction in teacher education and educational leadership, biology and marine biology, environmental science, liberal arts, business and public administration, health information management, mine training, and fisheries technology, among others.
UAS programs take full advantage of the majesty of beautiful Southeast Alaska, which includes the famed Inside Passage—a majestic array of islands, channels, and fjords abutting coastal mountains, icefields, and glaciers. Students have opportunities for field study and research in the Tongass National Forest, in intertidal marine environments, and on nearby icefields. Our Juneau Campus is located in Alaska’s capital city, which provides opportunities for student internships in Alaska’s legislature.
Southeast Alaska is also the ancestral home of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples. Their presence extends back thousands of years. Some twenty percent of UAS students are indigenous Alaskans. The advancement of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures and languages are increasingly reflected in UAS programs. As part of its community engagement, UAS has formal partnerships with the Sealaska Heritage Institute, the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, and Ketchikan Indian Community.
