The University of Alaska Southeast is proud to be awarded the Military Friendly School Gold Distinction. Military Friendly is an organization that helps identify schools that will best enable veterans to build satisfying careers during their transition into the civilian world.

“It is so important for veterans and their families to feel at home in the communities they have sacrificed to protect,” said UAS Chancellor Aparna Dileep-Nageswaran Palmer. “We welcome our veterans to UAS and feel a responsibility to serve them with the same dedication to duty as they have served our country. We are thrilled and honored by this recognition of our commitment to our military families.”

The Military Friendly Advisory Council is composed of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment communities. Among the criteria for choosing schools are their ability to retain and graduate students, and the success of their job placement programs.
“Military Friendly’s standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military Community,” said Kayla Lopez, Military Friendly’s National Director of Military Partnerships. “This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages Institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”

UAS is committed to supporting and encouraging the academic and overall success of its veteran students, spouses, and dependents.
