UA Board of Regents to premiere new community forum in Juneau--September 15

Chancellor Rick Caulfield notes, “The forum provides a special opportunity for people to share their ideas with the Board of Regents about the importance of higher education in Southeast Alaska. This is a time of great change at UA, and we invite the UAS community to make its voice heard.”

Date of Press Release: July 22, 2016

The University of Alaska Board of Regents is premiering a new avenue for public input when it meets in Juneau on September 15-16, 2016. It will hold a special community forum on the evening of Thursday, September 15 from 5:30-7:00 PM at the UAS Recreation Center. All members of the public are invited.

In previous years, testimony before the Board was limited to two minutes, and only for those present in person. Moreover, time for public testimony only came during daytime hours--making it difficult for many members of the public. The format expands opportunities for board members to hear input from students, staff, faculty, and community members in a more personal and direct way.

Chancellor Rick Caulfield notes, “The forum provides a special opportunity for people to share their ideas with the Board of Regents about the importance of higher education in Southeast Alaska. This is a time of great change at UA, and we invite the UAS community to make its voice heard.”

Also for the first time, individuals from across the entire state will be able to provide testimony via telephone the week prior to the Juneau meeting--on Tuesday, September 6 from 4:00-6:00 PM. More information about this opportunity will be forthcoming.
