UAS Center for Mine Training

The Mission of the UAS Center for Mine Training is to provide world-class workforce training in occupational fields leading to employment in the mining industry, with a special emphasis on expanding an Alaskan workforce for underground Mine Mechanics.

We offer classes and training for people looking for work in the mining industry as well as upgrade training for those already employed in the mining industry.


2019 Hecla Greens Creek Scholarship 

Already know you want to pursue a career as a mine mechanic but need some financial support? Hecla Greens Creek wants to help and put you to work. 

Selected scholarship recipients receive the cost of tuition up to 16 credits in their first semester for approved classes, and if pursuing an A.A.S., tuition and fees for approved classes in their second semester if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. If selected to receive the scholarship, the funds will automatically be applied to your student account.  Scholarships recipients will be notified by phone if selected by August 21st, 2019. 

Registration is open until August 1st for the Fall semester and December 1st for the Spring semester

Introduction to Mining Occupations and Operations 

The first step towards a potential career in mining. This course is built especially for High school students, who will earn 3 UAS college credits and 0.5 high school credit. Learn from those who are directly linked to the mining industry. Instruction involves guest speakers who speak of their careers in the mining industry, their experience in mining operations and how to safely and effectively operate a mine. This class is offered each spring semester at the UAS Center for Mine Training located within the UAS School of Career Education in Juneau. The class is the entry point to students looking to set out upon the Hecla Greens Creek Pathway to Mining, which is an industry-lead effort train more Southeast Alaskans for the high-paying jobs available to them as Mine Mechanics, but is also a great class for anyone interested in learning more about mining. 


Apply before it's too late. The Spring Semester Scholarship Application deadline is December 14, 2019 and scholarships are limited.
